On this day, October 2, 2023, we gather to announce the formation of the Encryption Advocates Council (EAC). The EAC is a new coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to promoting the use of encryption to protect privacy and security.
Encryption is a powerful tool that can be used to safeguard our communications, data, and devices. It is essential for protecting our freedom of expression, our right to privacy, and our economic security.
In recent years, however, we have seen a growing trend of governments and corporations trying to weaken or ban encryption. This is a dangerous trend that threatens our fundamental rights and freedoms.
The EAC is here to fight back against these efforts. We will work to educate the public about the importance of encryption and advocate for policies that protect its use. We will also support organizations and individuals who are working to develop and deploy new encryption technologies.
